1. Who is Oppo? I have never heard of them.

2. Can Oppo read my PAL DVD / DVD-R / Region x DVDs?
The Oppo DVD player is designed to playback almost anything.
3. Which Oppo works with TVs that has HDMI input ?
All Oppo DVD players supports HDMI. DV970HD ouputs native HDMI signal, while the OPDV971H includes a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
4. I do not have HDMI, should I upgrade to Oppo?
Oppo DV-981HD does not support component video connection (HDMI). Oppo OPDV971H component video at 480i, and DV-970HD supports upto 1080i.
5. Can the Oppo output 480P, 720P, 1080I from the component connector (3 x RCA's)?
On the OPDV971H, the Faroudja function for upconverting DVD is only available through the DVI connection. Using the component only gives 480i output. With the DV970HD, 480i and 480P component output are supported, if the DVD is not copy-protected (i.e. CSS encrypted), 720P and 1080i are supported.
6. Is there Macrovision on the Oppo?
In compliant with the DVD Forum, Macrovision is enabled on Oppo's Composite and S-Video output.
7. I have a XXX Plasma TV or YYY Projector, is 1080p going to give me the highest quality?
For most ED Plasma, 480P gives the best quality. For HD Plasma or typical consumer LCD projector such as Sanyo Z2, Panasonic 300/500, Marantz and other Mustang HD2 DLP units, 1280 x 720 (720P) works best. Some rear projection or CRT HDTV supports native 1920 x 1080I, and for these unit, select the 1080I output mode. The latest LCD TVs and projectors support 1080p and works well with Oppo DV-981HD. The important point is to select the closest resolution that is, ideally, a 1:1 mapping to the native pixel count or scan rate supported by the video device.
8. Is this player plug and play for USA electrical outlet ? How about other parts of the world?
Yes, it comes with standard USA power cord. Oppo supports 90-240V AC, hence it can be operated in other parts of the world via appropriate AC adapter. (The power cord is not detachable).
9. How and when will there be Firmware updates? If I buy a new Oppo player today, does it come with the latest Firmware?
We will ship Oppo DVD players with the most current Firmware release. From time to time, check for the latest Firmware release here. Firmware updates will be released for bug fixes, improvements, etc. It will be available as a downloadable ISO file, just burn to a bootable CDR.
10. I am using DVI/HDMI, I cannot select NTSC or PAL?
DVI/Component displays the native RGB information, hence supersedes the traditional (read: antiquated) signal formats. NTSC/PAL is only useful when using Composite or S-Video signal.
